If you do not soften your heart out of compassion,
If your branches won't bend gently,
then soften your tongue toward me through union with you.
Then let your tongue speak softly to me,

واسْتَبِقْ مُهْجَةَ مُدْنَفٍ

And spare the life of a lovesick man,
And outrun the zeal of an impetuous one,
with whose blood you have stained your fingertips.
Whose blood has splattered your walls.
