يَحطُّdebases رفيعَhigh القَدْرrank أوor يدفعrepels النُّصْحاgood counsel
I have seen passion either lead one to indecency,
I saw passion as either a guide to disgrace,
debase the high in rank, or drive good counsel away.
Degrading the dignified or repelling advice.
ولاand no خيرَgood فيin أمرٍa matter إذاwhen حلّهhe enters it الفتىthe young man
غداbecomes عِرضُهhis honor نَهْباplunder وإحسانُهand his goodness قُبْحاugliness
And there is no good in a matter that, when a young man takes it up,
There is no good in a matter when passion seizes a young man,
leaves his honor plundered and his goodness turned ugly.
His honor becomes plunder and his charity ugliness.
فمنso whoever كانis ذاpossessed of عقلٍreason فلاthen let him not يُطعِobey الهوىpassion
فقدfor indeed شَرَحتهhave explained it المَخْزياتُshameful deeds لناto us شَرْحاthoroughly
So whoever possesses reason must not obey passion,
So whoever possesses intellect must not obey passion,
for shameful deeds have explained it fully to us.
For disgraces have explained it to us plainly.
