لماnot yet أمتI have died إِذْwhen بعدتَyou went away عندat انطلاقِكْyour departure
إننيindeed, I لستI am not مُدْنَفاًwasted by illness لِفِراقِكْfrom parting with you
I have not yet died since you went away at your departure.
When you left after bidding farewell
I am not laid low by parting from you.
Indeed I'm not resentful of our parting
غيرexcept أنّthat الحِمَامَdeath ياO مُهْجَتِيmy soul لمhas not
يَسْتَطِعْbeen able أنto يَفُكَّنيfree me منfrom وَثاقكyour bonds
Yet death, O my soul, has not
Yet my soul, o beloved, could not
been able to free me from your bonds.
Free me from your binding
قاسَمَتْنيshared with me النّوىseparation وصالكَyour company حتّىuntil
لكأنّindeed, as though الفراقَparting مِنamong عُشّاقكyour lovers
Separation shared your company with me, until
Our love consumed me such that
parting seemed to be one of your lovers.
Parting felt like losing a lover
وأرىand I see البينparting واهِباًbestowing حُسْنَthe beauty of عَيْنَيْtwo eyes
كyour لِوَشْكِto the imminence of النّوىseparation وطِيبand the sweetness of عناقِكْyour embrace
And I see parting bestowing the beauty of your eyes
And I see separation granting beauty to my eyes
upon imminent separation, and the sweetness of your embrace.
For the agony of longing and joy of your embrace
كيفhow صبريmy patience وقدnow that غدوتُI have come to be بأرضٍin a land
لاnot أرىI see فوقَهاabove it سناgleam إشراقِكْyour radiance
How can I be patient, now that I am in a land
How can I be patient when I'm in a land
above which I see no gleam of your radiance?
Where I see no ray of your sunrise
