I glanced at him, and his glances shot at my heart

With arrows feathered with nothing but kohl.

So the pains of his arrows showed in my heart’s core,

And the color of my blood showed in his bashful cheek.

Would that, when he gave me his eye’s poison to drink,

Undiluted, he had given me the wine of his glance with kisses.

Or would that he turn away from shunning and wronging me,

As I turned away, with my heart, from reproach concerning him.
