من رشأ اصفرِ التراقي
I complain to God of what I suffer
I complain to God of what I endure
from a fawn, yellow at the collarbones,
From a fawn with supple, smooth skin
أَحْورَdark-eyed ذِيpossessing غُنّةٍa nasal tone غَرِيرٍguileless
أَحْورَ ذِي غُنّةٍ غَرِيرٍ

يَضنّ بالوصل والتّلاقي
dark-eyed, with a nasal tone, guileless,
A gazelle with a delicate, alluring voice
who begrudges union and meeting.
Who is stingy with union and meeting
كأنماas though ثغرهُhis mouth المفَدَّىthe dearly cherished
كأنما ثغرهُ المفَدَّى

يَنْظِمُ ما تَنْثرُ المآقي
It is as though his cherished mouth
As if her alluring mouth
strings together what the eye-corners scatter.
Arranges what sorrows scatter
