أنا أظرف الحّجاب شخصاً وموقعاً

أنا أظرف الحّجاب شخصاً وموقعاً

وأكتَمُهم سراً على المتكلِّم

وأكتَمُهم سراً على المتكلِّم

I am the most elegant of doorkeepers, in person and position,

I am the most discreet of veils, person and place,

And the best of them at keeping a speaker's secret.

And I conceal from them a secret of the speaker.

وإن هَمَّ محبوبٌ بوصلِ حبيبِه

وإن هَمَّ محبوبٌ بوصلِ حبيبِه

وقيتُهما من كل واشٍ ومُبْرِمِ

وقيتُهما من كل واشٍ ومُبْرِمِ

And if a beloved seeks union with his love,

And if a lover intends to unite with his beloved,

I shield them both from every talebearer and pest.

I protect them from every gossip and slanderer.
