دمعيmy tears بماabout what أَكتمI conceal مِنهof it وشىdivulged
How futile to conceal what the heart enfolds!
Alas for hiding what my tears disclose
My tears have betrayed what I conceal within it.
My tears reveal what I would fain conceal
ياO منyou who لهاshe has وجهa face كشمسِlike the sun of الضحىmidmorning
وطرَّةand a forelock مثلlike ظلامthe darkness of العِشاnightfall
O you whose face is like the midmorning sun,
O thou whose face outshines the dawn's first rose
And whose forelock is like the darkness of nightfall,
Whose tresses dim the darkest night conceal
إنif تسفكيyou shed باللحظِwith a glance ظلماunjustly دميmy blood
فقدthen may well يُصيبstrike الليثَthe lion عينُthe eye of الرشَاthe young gazelle
If with a glance you unjustly shed my blood,
Shouldst thou in anger cast on me thy sight
Then a young gazelle's eye may well strike a lion.
Perchance a lion's eye by needles fell
