كيف لا تَعْدَمُ الجُسومُ القلوبَا

كيف لا تَعْدَمُ الجُسومُ القلوبَا

وتَرى نَضْرةُ الوجوه شُحُوبَا

How could bodies not lose their hearts,

How can bodies not lack hearts

When you see the bloom of faces turned to pallor?

When you see the glow of faces paled

مَن يُعَزِّي الجيادَ أم من يُسَلَّى

مَن يُعَزِّي الجيادَ أم من يُسَلَّى

مجلسَ الملك والسّريرَ الكئيبا

مجلسَ الملك والسّريرَ الكئيبا

Who consoles the steeds, or who comforts

Who will console the steeds or who will be consoled

The king’s court and the sorrowful throne?

The king's council and the grieving throne

فقدوا بعدَك القلوبَ اللّواتي

فقدوا بعدَك القلوبَ اللّواتي

شَقًّها واجبٌ فشقّوا الجيوبا

شَقًّها واجبٌ فشقّوا الجيوبا

After you, they lost the hearts whose

وامُعِزّاه وَامُعِزَّاه حتى

يغتدي الدمعُ بالدماء خضيبا

Alas, Muʿizz! Alas, Muʿizz! Until

Console them, console them until

The tears become dyed with blood.

Tears flow bloodily with blood

فليَذُقْ غيريَ الحياةَ فإنّي

فليَذُقْ غيريَ الحياةَ فإنّي

لا أرى للحياة بعدَكَ طيبا

لا أرى للحياة بعدَكَ طيبا

So let another taste life, for I
