في الطُّنّ معنّى من التَّعنيق معترضٌ
فيin الضَّمthe clasping منهof it وفيand in التَّشديدthe tightening بالقُضُبwith the twigs
في الضَّم منه وفي التَّشديد بالقُضُب
In the bouquet lies a hint of embracing,
in its clasping and its tight binding with twigs.
زهرٌblossoms تنقّبveiled themselves بالصَّفْصافin willow حينwhen أتىthey came
زهرٌ تنقّب بالصَّفْصاف حين أتى
تَنقُّبَthe veiling of الأنجمِthe stars الغرّاءradiant بالسُّحُبin the clouds
تَنقُّبَ الأنجمِ الغرّاء بالسُّحُب
Blossoms veiled themselves in willow when they came,
as radiant stars veil themselves in clouds.
جعلتُI made فألِيَmy omen فيin توجيهsending زهرتهits blossom
جعلتُ فألِيَ في توجيه زهرته
طلوعَthe rising of زهرةthe bloom of منthe one whom أهوىI love منfrom الوَصَبsickness
طلوعَ زهرة من أهوى من الوَصَب
I took the sending of its blossom as an omen
of my beloved’s bloom rising out of sickness.
لاmay not أّخّرdelay البُرءُrecovery منfrom لُقياكmeeting you زَوْرتَهits visit
لا أّخّر البُرءُ من لُقياك زَوْرتَه
فإنّfor indeed بُرْءَكyour recovery برءُthe recovery of المجدglory والأدبand letters
فإنّ بُرْءَك برءُ المجد والأدب
May recovery not delay its visit to you,
for your recovery is the recovery of glory and letters.
