We drank, as you sent word to inquire, a wine

as pure as affection untouched by estrangement,

by the ratl, and over it we sang in rapture:

“The token of what lies between you and me, O Hind.”

And our souls and needs whispered to you,

as though you were present among us, not yet gone.

So may al-Aziz’s reign endure for us, for

through it blessings become complete and good fortune spreads.
