Many a night I have joined to a morning draught,

and many a morning I have joined to an evening draught.

And many a delight—I drew the sweetness of youthful dalliance

within it, as aloofness draws the beloved,

while cups of wine waft from within them

the breath of musk amid the gleam of lightning.

I love life only for two things:

the span of pleasure, or the fulfillment of obligations.
