وصامتةٍ ناطقَهْ

بألفاظِها شائِقهْ

Silent, yet speaking,

And a silent one who speaks,

captivating in her words,

captivating with her words.

تئنّ بلا زفةِ

تئنّ بلا زفةِ

ولا كبدٍ خافقه

ولا كبدٍ خافقه

she moans without a sigh,

She moans without a procession,

or a throbbing heart.

and without a throbbing liver.

كأنّ قواديسها

كأنّ قواديسها

لها أبداً وامقه

لها أبداً وامقه

As though her waterwheel buckets

As though her buckets

were forever enamored of her:

were forever in love with her:

فَأَجْسَامُها وُتَّبٌ

فَأَجْسَامُها وُتَّبٌ

وأدمعها دافقهْ

وأدمعها دافقهْ

their bodies spring and bound,

so their bodies leap,

their tears streaming forth.

and their tears gush forth.

تردِّدُ مِن صوتها

تردِّدُ مِن صوتها

لحون لها رائقة

لحون لها رائقة

From her voice reverberate

She repeats in her voice

melodies of her own, delightful—

melodies pleasing to her,

مُغَنّيةٌ تارة

مُغَنّيةٌ تارة

وزامرةٌ حاذقهْ

وزامرةٌ حاذقهْ

at times a singer,

at times a singer,

and a skillful piper.
