وراحٍ عليها كالجُمانِ المُدَحْرَجِ

تلوح كماء الوجنة المتُضَرِّج

And wine, with bubbles upon it like rolling pearls,

gleaming like the rosy sheen of a cheek.

ملأْنا بها بِيض الكئوسِ فأُقبلتْ

ملأْنا بها بِيض الكئوسِ فأُقبلتْ

تُحَثّ علينا في رياض بَنَفْسَج

تُحَثّ علينا في رياض بَنَفْسَج

We filled white cups with it, and they were brought forth,

hurried round among us in gardens of violets.

وخلْفَ رداءِ الغيم شمسٌ منيرةٌ

تلوح كوجه الغادة المتبرج

تلوح كوجه الغادة المتبرج

And behind the cloak of clouds, a radiant sun

shines like the unveiled face of a graceful maiden.

ولي صاحبٌ كالمسك بالشهد طبعه

ولي صاحبٌ كالمسك بالشهد طبعه

إذا وجَدَ الصَّهباءَ لم يَتَحرَّج

إذا وجَدَ الصَّهباءَ لم يَتَحرَّج

And I have a companion whose nature is like musk mingled with honey;

when he finds tawny wine, he feels no scruple.

منِيعُ نواحي السرّ لا يُسْخِط النَّدى

أغرُّ كَريْعان الضُّحى المتبلِّج

أغرُّ كَريْعان الضُّحى المتبلِّج

His secrets are impregnable; he never angers generosity,

radiant as the fresh splendor of the brightening forenoon.
