إنّindeed الأميرَthe emir المُعلَّىthe exalted فيin مَعالِيهhis noble deeds
أَدَقَّmade meager حَظَّيmy share وقدthough indeed جلَّتare great أياديِهhis favors
Indeed, the emir, exalted in his noble deeds,
Indeed the prince in his lofty heights
has made my share meager, though his favors are great.
Has granted me the finest fortune, his hands now glorious,
فَرُحْتُso I became كالطائرِlike a bird اسُتلَّتwere plucked out قَوادِمُهits primary flight feathers
وليسَand do not تعلوrise aloft بهwith it ضُعفاًthrough weakness خَوافِيهits secondary flight feathers
So I became like a bird whose primary feathers were plucked,
I rejoiced like a bird whose ties were loosed,
and whose secondary feathers are too weak to lift it.
Yet no weakness shadows his towering qualities.
لقدindeed عفاhas vanished شَطرُhalf رسميmy stipend منfrom مَكارمِهhis bounty
وليسَand not يُعجِزهis beyond his power إصلاحُrestoring عَافيهِits vanished part
Half my stipend from his bounty has indeed vanished,
Thanks to his generosity half my fate is mended,
yet restoring its vanished part is not beyond him.
Nor does healing his subjects tax his powers.
إنindeed البِناءَthe building إذاwhen ماan emphasizing particle انهدَّcollapses جانبُهits side
لمnot يأمَنِfeel secure الناسُthe people أنthat يَنهدَّwill collapse باقِيهthe rest of it
Indeed, when one side of a building collapses,
When a building's side collapses
people cannot be sure the rest will not collapse.
None feel safe, fearing the rest will follow.
