ولمّا رأيتُ النّاسَ سَنُّوا التَهانيَا

ولمّا رأيتُ النّاسَ سَنُّوا التَهانيَا

بعثتُ به منّي إليكَ القَوافيَا

بعثتُ به منّي إليكَ القَوافيَا

And when I saw people establish congratulations as a custom,

When I saw people sending congratulations,

I sent you rhymes of my own for the occasion.

I sent you this rhymed poem from me.

إذا هُنِّيءَ الأَمْلاكُ بالعِيدِ لَم نَقُلْ

إذا هُنِّيءَ الأَمْلاكُ بالعِيدِ لَم نَقُلْ

غَداً لك هذا الدهرُ بالسّعد هانيا

غَداً لك هذا الدهرُ بالسّعد هانيا

When kings are congratulated on the feast, we do not say:

When kingdoms are congratulated for Eid, we don't say,

“May this age greet you tomorrow with good fortune.”

"Tomorrow, may this time bring you happiness."

ولكن نهنِّي عِيدَنا بك والورى

ولكن نهنِّي عِيدَنا بك والورى

كما بك هَنّانا النَّدَى والمعَاليا

كما بك هَنّانا النَّدَى والمعَاليا

Rather, we congratulate our feast and humankind on you,

Rather, we congratulate our Eid with you, and the people,

just as generosity and lofty virtues have congratulated us through you.

As you made us happy with the dew and great heights.

فلو لم تكن في الأرض كانت بِلا سَناً

فلو لم تكن في الأرض كانت بِلا سَناً

وأشبَهَتِ الأيّامُ فيها الّلياليا

وأشبَهَتِ الأيّامُ فيها الّلياليا

For if you were not upon the earth, it would be without radiance,

If you were not on this earth, it would be without splendor,

and the days upon it would resemble nights.

And days would resemble nights.

إذا ما امرؤ سامَي بِجَدٍّ ووالدٍ

إذا ما امرؤ سامَي بِجَدٍّ ووالدٍ

سَمَوْتَ بأخلاقٍ جَمَعْن المعَاليا

سَمَوْتَ بأخلاقٍ جَمَعْن المعَاليا

When a man vies for eminence through his grandfather and father,

When a noble man of resolve and father

you rise through virtues that encompass every excellence.

You reached the heights, gathering all glories.

ولو لم تكن مِن معشرٍ فيهم الهُدَى

ولو لم تكن مِن معشرٍ فيهم الهُدَى

لكنتَ هُدىً للناس وحدَكَ باقيا

لكنتَ هُدىً للناس وحدَكَ باقيا

And even if you were not of a people among whom guidance dwells,

If you were not from a group guided in it,

you alone would remain a guide to humankind.

You would still be a guide to people, remaining alone.

كأنّك ماءُ الغَيْثِ يستَنْبِت الرُّبَا

كأنّك ماءُ الغَيْثِ يستَنْبِت الرُّبَا

ويَكْسُو الثَّرَى حُسْنا ويُروْى الصَّوادِيا

ويَكْسُو الثَّرَى حُسْنا ويُروْى الصَّوادِيا

You are like rainwater that brings growth to the hills,

You are like rain that sprouts plants

clothes the earth in beauty, and quenches the thirsty.

And covers the land beautifully, watering valleys.
