إذا نعس الناس لم تنعَسِ
And one that cleaves the darkness of deepest night,
With elegance, she illuminates the darkness of the lamp
When people grow drowsy, she does not grow drowsy,
When people sleep, she does not sleep

Crowned above the top of her head
Crowned atop her glass chimney
With a crown of sun-bright flame.
With a crown of glowing flame

When she is lit, she scatters tears
When ignited, she sheds tears

And if those seated with her sleep, she does not sleep;
Though her burner may sleep, she does not sleep
And if the slave sits, she does not sit.
And though the servant may sit, she does not sit

تجود على الشَرْب بالأنفُس
And I have seen nothing more generous than her nature:
And I have not seen one more generous than her nature
She lavishes life itself upon the drinking companions.
She gives the finest drink to the thirsty
