وأسوَدَand a black man يحكيresembles الليلthe night نُقْبةthe hue لونِهِof his color
وأسوَدَ يحكي الليل نُقْبة لونِهِ
حَكَىresembled أمَّهhis mother فيin كلّall تركيبِهاher physical makeup لِيناin softness
حَكَى أمَّه في كلّ تركيبِها لِينا
And a black man whose complexion mirrors the night
As dark as night he related his story
Took after his mother in the softness of her whole frame.
In every detail he told of his mother's tenderness
ويَبلُغand he reaches أقصىthe utmost limit of عمرِهhis lifespan وهوwhile he is أمَردٌbeardless
ويَبلُغ أقصى عمرِه وهو أمَردٌ
وتَحسَبand you would reckon باقيwhat remains of أَيْرِهhis penis عِقْدَthe finger-sign for عِشريناtwenty
وتَحسَب باقي أَيْرِه عِقْدَ عِشرينا
He reaches the end of his lifespan still beardless,
He reached the end of his days yet remained unbroken
And you would take what remains of his penis for the finger-sign for twenty.
You'd think his life unfinished, only twenty years
