Ah, many a night among the nights of the jug
O Lord, a night of the nights of the goblet
I spent with a tender yet aged maiden,
I spent with an old flirt

Beloved in her inward nature and outward appearance.
Beloved of the wine-flask and cups
The heat of Tammuz's blaze melted her,
Melted by the heat of blazing July

أرقَّmore delicate منthan فهمِيmy understanding ومنand than تمييزيmy discernment
Until she appeared like pure gold,
Until she seemed like pure gold
More delicate than my understanding and my discernment.
More mesmerizing than my comprehension or judgement

عنfrom لحظةِthe glance of الغامزthe winker للمغموزtoward the one winked at
So the gaze through her is not barred
An unveiled glance in her not restrained
From the winker's glance toward the one winked at,
From the moment the winker winks at the winking one
كأنَهاas though she were صَفْوُthe pure essence of نَدَىbounty العزيزِal-Aziz
As though she were the pure essence of al-Aziz's bounty.
As if she were the purest dew of the Almighty
