Al-Aziz extended his right hand with a violet,

And a plucked rose that had not withered.

So it was as though its blue upon the rose’s red

Were a mark on a soft, flushed cheek.

He greeted me, and revived my soul with a greeting,

Like reunion that met a hopeful one’s wish.

And, smiling, he gestured toward me with his face,

So I thought it the face of radiant dawn.

Through his generosity and the bounties of his hand, I dwell

In a pristine garden and in fruitful glory.
