مانِعَتيyou who deny me لذّةَthe pleasure of التَّدانيdrawing near
مانحتيyou who grant me الوصلَunion غيرَnot عَذْبِsweet
You who deny me the pleasure of drawing near,
You who denied me the sweetness of intimacy
You who grant me union without sweetness,
You who granted me a love that wasn’t sweet
إنif كانis ذنْبيmy sin إليكِagainst you حبّيmy love
فلستُthen I do not أَعتدُّهcount it بذنبas a sin
If my sin against you is my love,
If my crime in your eyes is my love
then I do not count it as a sin.
Then I do not consider it a crime
هاbehold فانظريthen look هلdo ...? تَرَيْنَyou see إلاّexcept
قلبيَmy heart يَبْكيweeps لفقدfor the loss of قلبيmy heart
Look, then: do you see anything but
Look and see if you find anything but
my heart weeping for the loss of my heart?
My heart crying for the loss of my heart
كأنّas though منthe one who شفنيhas worn me thin عدوّيmy enemy
وهوand he علىin رغمspite of ذاكthat حِبِّيmy beloved
As though the one who has worn me thin were my enemy,
It's as if my healer was my enemy
yet, despite that, he is my beloved.
Yet he remains, despite that, my beloved
