أقِرّوا لنا يا آل عبّاسَ بالعُلا

أقِرّوا لنا يا آل عبّاسَ بالعُلا

فلستمْ لها يا آلَ عبّاسَ أكسَبا

فلستمْ لها يا آلَ عبّاسَ أكسَبا

Acknowledge our eminence, O house of Abbas.

Acknowledge our superiority, O Abbasids, in nobility

For you, O house of Abbas, are no better at attaining it.

For you have not, O Abbasids, earned it

سبقناكُم للدِّين والهجرةِ التي

سبقناكُم للدِّين والهجرةِ التي

تأخَّرَ عنها جدُّكمْ وتَحجَّبا

تأخَّرَ عنها جدُّكمْ وتَحجَّبا

We preceded you in faith and in the migration from which

We preceded you in religion and in the emigration

Your forefather held back and kept himself hidden.

Which your grandfather shunned and veiled himself from

وكنتمْ بني عمِّ النبيّ محمّدٍ

وكنتمْ بني عمِّ النبيّ محمّدٍ

وكنّا بِنيه وهو كان لنا أبا

وكنّا بِنيه وهو كان لنا أبا

And you were sons of the Prophet Muhammad's paternal uncle,

While you were sons of the Prophet's uncle

While we were his sons, and he was a father to us.

We were his sons, and he was a father to us

وليس بنو أعمامِهم في دنوِّهم

وليس بنو أعمامِهم في دنوِّهم

كمِثل أخيه خُطّةً وتنسُّبا

كمِثل أخيه خُطّةً وتنسُّبا

Nor are their paternal uncles' sons, in their closeness,

The sons of uncles are not like their nephews

Like his brother in standing and kinship.

In rank and ancestry

ولو لم نكن إلاّ بني العمّ مثلكمْ

ولو لم نكن إلاّ بني العمّ مثلكمْ

لكنتم لنا وَهْداً وكنّا لكم رُبَا

لكنتم لنا وَهْداً وكنّا لكم رُبَا

And even if we were only an uncle's sons, like you,

Even if we were only sons of an uncle like you

You would be low ground to us, and we would be hills to you.

You would be followers for us, and we lords for you

وما يستوي العَمّان هذا مقرَّب

وما يستوي العَمّان هذا مقرَّب

محبّ وهذا بعد بُعْدٍ تقرَّبا

محبّ وهذا بعد بُعْدٍ تقرَّبا

Nor are the two paternal uncles equal: this one is held close,

The two uncles are not equal, one intimate

And loving; that one drew near after being distant.

Beloved, and one, distant, sought proximity

نَبَا جدُّكم عن نَصرِه يومَ بَعْثِه

نَبَا جدُّكم عن نَصرِه يومَ بَعْثِه

وجدُّ عليٍّ جدِّنا عنه ما نَبَا

وجدُّ عليٍّ جدِّنا عنه ما نَبَا

Your forefather turned away from supporting him on the day he was sent,

Your grandfather shunned aiding him on the day of his mission

And the forefather of Ali, our forefather, did not turn away from him.

While Ali, our grandfather, aided him and proclaimed
