My state has changed since you left,

My state has changed after you,

and your absence has troubled my mind.

And my mind is disturbed by your absence.

ولا واللّه ما قلبي

ولا واللّه ما قلبي

لكم ناسٍ ولا قالي

لكم ناسٍ ولا قالي

No, by God, my heart is not

By God, my heart belongs to no one else,

forgetful of you, nor averse to you.

Nor have I said so to anyone.

ودِدتُ لو أنّكم تَدْرو

ودِدتُ لو أنّكم تَدْرو

ن أشواقِي وبَلبالي

ن أشواقِي وبَلبالي

I wish that you knew

I wish you knew

my longings and my turmoil,

My longing and confusion,

ودَمعِي عند ذِكراكُم

ودَمعِي عند ذِكراكُم

وإطراقِي وإذلالي

وإطراقِي وإذلالي

and my tears when I remember you,

And my tears when I remember you,

and my lowered gaze and my abasement.

My silence and humiliation.

فهل تَلْقَوْن ما ألقا

فهل تَلْقَوْن ما ألقا

ه من وجدٍ وإِعوال

Do you, then, endure what I endure

Will you find what I have found

of longing and wailing?

Of passion and suffering?

لقاؤكُم وقربُكُم

مُنَى نفسي وآمالي

Meeting you and being near you

Seeing you and being near you

are my soul's wishes and my hopes.

Is what my soul desires and hopes for.

على أنّي وإن كنتُ ال

مجيد السيّدَ العالي

مجيد السيّدَ العالي

Yet I, though I am the

Although I am not

illustrious, exalted lord,

The glorious master,

لأُلزِم حُبَّكُمْ قلبي

لأُلزِم حُبَّكُمْ قلبي

وأَجعل حالَكم حالي

وأَجعل حالَكم حالي

surely bind my heart to love for you,

I will make my heart love you

and make your state my own.

And make your state my state.

فهل أنا شُغْلُ أَنْفُسِكُمْ

فهل أنا شُغْلُ أَنْفُسِكُمْ

فأَنتمْ كلُّ أَشغالي

فأَنتمْ كلُّ أَشغالي

Am I, then, what occupies your souls?

Am I the concern of your souls

For you are all that occupies me.

As you are all my concerns?
