قالت أغدْر بنا في الحبّ قلت لها

قالت أغدْر بنا في الحبّ قلت لها

لا نال غايةَ ما يرجوه مَنْ غَدَرَا

لا نال غايةَ ما يرجوه مَنْ غَدَرَا

She said, “Is this betrayal of us in love?” I said to her,

She said, "Be generous with us in love," I said to her,

“May whoever betrays never attain the goal he hopes for.”

"No one attains what he hopes for if he is deceitful."

قالت فلِمْ لَمْ تزرنا قلت زاركُم

قالت فلِمْ لَمْ تزرنا قلت زاركُم

قلبي ولم يدر بي جسمي ولا شعرا

قلبي ولم يدر بي جسمي ولا شعرا

She said, “Then why did you not visit us?” I said, “You were visited by

She said, "Why have you not visited us?" I said, "My heart visited you,

my heart; my body neither knew of me nor sensed it.”

But my body and my hair did not know about me."

قالت كذا يكتم العشّاقُ حبَّهم

قالت كذا يكتم العشّاقُ حبَّهم

فينعَمون ويَجْنون الهوى نَضِرا

فينعَمون ويَجْنون الهوى نَضِرا

She said, “Thus lovers conceal their love,

She said, "That's how lovers conceal their love,

and so live in bliss and reap love in its freshness.”

And so they enjoy themselves and passion makes them vigorous."

قلت اسمحي لي بتقبيلٍ أعيش به

قلت اسمحي لي بتقبيلٍ أعيش به

قالت وأيُّ محبّ قبَّل القمرا

قالت وأيُّ محبّ قبَّل القمرا

I said, “Allow me a kiss by which I may live.”

I said, "Permit me one kiss to live by."

She said, “And what lover has ever kissed the moon?”

She said, "What lover ever kissed the moon?"
