لئن كان شهر الصَّوْمِ أفضلَ حولِهِ

لئن كان شهر الصَّوْمِ أفضلَ حولِهِ

فَفَضْلُك في أَبناء جنسك أفْضلُ

فَفَضْلُك في أَبناء جنسك أفْضلُ

If the month of fasting is the finest of its year,

then your excellence among your own kind is greater still.

وإن تك فيه ليلة القدر إنها

وإن تك فيه ليلة القدر إنها

لَفِيكَ معانيها التي تُتأول

لَفِيكَ معانيها التي تُتأول

And if it contains the Night of Decree, indeed,

its interpreted meanings surely reside in you.

وحسبُك أَنّ الصائمين له إذا

وحسبُك أَنّ الصائمين له إذا

طَوَوْا عنك فِيه النصح لم يُتَقَبَّلوا

طَوَوْا عنك فِيه النصح لم يُتَقَبَّلوا

And it suffices for you that those who observe its fast, when

they withhold sincere loyalty from you during it, are not accepted.

فهُنِّيته شهراً وعُمِّرت مِثلَه

فهُنِّيته شهراً وعُمِّرت مِثلَه

ثمانين حولاً تُرْتَجَى وتُؤَمّلُ

ثمانين حولاً تُرْتَجَى وتُؤَمّلُ

So may you be blessed with this month, and live to see its like

for eighty years, looked to with hope and expectation.

أَنارت بك الأَيام حتى كأَنها

أَنارت بك الأَيام حتى كأَنها

دُجىً أنت صبح في أَعاليه مقبِلُ

دُجىً أنت صبح في أَعاليه مقبِلُ

The days shone through you, until they seemed

night-darkness, with you a dawn advancing in its heights.

فلِلمجدِ منك السعي فرض ولِلهدى

فلِلمجدِ منك السعي فرض ولِلهدى

وللجود حتم ما تقول وتفعل

وللجود حتم ما تقول وتفعل

Thus, for glory, your striving is a duty; and for guidance

and generosity, what you say and do is binding.

ولو لم نُجِد فيك المديح منظماً

ولو لم نُجِد فيك المديح منظماً

لأغناك عن ذاك القُران المنَزَّلُ

لأغناك عن ذاك القُران المنَزَّلُ

And even if we did not render your praise well in verse,

the revealed Qur'an would spare you the need for that.

وصلّى عليك الله يا خَيْرَ خَلقِهِ

وصلّى عليك الله يا خَيْرَ خَلقِهِ

ومَنْ هُو هَدْيٌ لِلأَنامِ وموئِلُ

ومَنْ هُو هَدْيٌ لِلأَنامِ وموئِلُ

And may God bless you, O best of His creation,

and you who are guidance and a refuge for humankind.
