أَسْهرني طولَ ليلتي رَشَاٌ

يَمْزُج لي ريقَه بأقداحِهْ
A young gazelle kept me awake throughout my night,
A draught kept me awake all night
mingling his saliva for me in his goblets.
Mixing its scent into his goblets.

كأنها الليلُ فوق إصباحِهْ
Dark shadows curved over the ivory of his cheek,
Darkness crept over the cheek's ivory
as though they were night above his dawn.
As if night were upon the dawn.

Oh, the beauty of his two cheeks’ camphor, and the fragrance
O, the beauty of his camphor-white cheek!
the veil has left there from his wine!
No veil's fragrance is more redolent.

As though the polo mallet of his sideburn
It's as if his cheek were a icicle
were swooping down across the cheek to strike his apples.
Falling to strike an apple.
