My two companions—is the Monastery of al-Qusayr what stirs me
My two friends, does the monastery of al-Qusayr rouse me
to pure delight and gentleness of temper?
To stirring rapture and an easy disposition?
فإنّيfor indeed I أَرانيI see myself كُلِّماwhenever زرتُI visited أَرضَهits grounds
فإنّي أَراني كُلِّما زرتُ أَرضَه

وجدتُ ارتياحي فيه مُجْتَمِع الشَّملِ
For I find myself, whenever I visit its grounds,
For I see that whenever I visit its grounds,
finding my ease there, my scattered self gathered whole.
I find my delight there gathered whole.

Clouds—whenever the breeze shakes their backs—
Hills that, whenever the breeze stirs their backs,
their fragrance sets youthful infatuation upon its feet.
Set youthful dalliance on its feet with their fragrance.
