Many a person asked me to learn my condition.
Many have asked me to tell them of my state
I said, 'I am afflicted by recounting it.'
I said, "There is in me an aversion to telling."

My times have turned scowling and grim
My time has passed frowning, scowling,
toward all the righteous, not the wicked.
Among all the righteous, not the wicked.

Our state of humiliation and silence
Our state is one of abasement and tranquility,
is like God's description of the unbelievers:
As God has described the unbelievers -
يومa day لاnot ينطِقونthey speak فيهon it ولاnor يؤfirst part of 'is permitted'
ذَنcompletion of 'is permitted' فيin هُوْلِهits terror لَهمْto them باعتذارwith an excuse
a day when they do not speak, nor is permission
On a day when they will not speak, nor will it be granted them
granted them, amid its terror, to offer an excuse.
To offer excuses, so terrible it will be.
