فَتْرتُهhis languor منfrom فتورِthe languor of عَيْنَيْهِhis two eyes
وحَرُّهand his heat منfrom لهيبthe blaze of خدَّيْهِhis two cheeks
His languor comes from the languor of his eyes,
His languor from the languishing of his eyes,
and his heat from the blaze of his cheeks.
And his passion from the flames of his cheeks.
أسكرَنيintoxicated me لحظُthe glance of مقلتيهhis two eyes كماjust as
أسكرintoxicated عينيهhis two eyes لدغُthe sting of صُدْغيهِhis two temple-locks
The glance of his eyes intoxicated me, just as
I was intoxicated by a glance of his eyelashes,
the sting of his temple-locks intoxicated his eyes.
As his eyes were intoxicated by my kiss.
ياO صَوْلَجَانيْهِhis two polo mallets (curled locks) مَنwho أعارَكُماlent you both
شقيقتَيْهِhis two anemones (cheeks) وليلَand the night of فَرعَيهِhis two tresses
O his two polo mallets, who lent you both
O twin fawns, who lent you two
his two anemones and the night of his two tresses,
My two cheeks, and the nights of his boughs,
حتَىso that تعبّدتماyou both enslaved القلوبَthe hearts لهto him
وقمتماand you both stood فيin الهوىlove بِعُذْرَيهas his two excuses
so that you both enslaved hearts to him
Until hearts worshipped him,
and served as his two excuses in love?
And you two rose in love as his excuse.
