I gazed at the Nile as it swelled,

I gazed at the Nile in its expanse

With waves that grow and do not diminish,

With a wave that grows but never shrinks

كأن معاطفَ أمواجِه

كأن معاطفَ أمواجِه

معاطفُ جاريةٍ ترقصُ

معاطفُ جاريةٍ ترقصُ

As though the curves of its waves

As if the coats of its waves

Were the curves of a dancing maiden.
