لوif كنتُI was أعلمI know أنّthat يومَthe day وَداعكْمbidding you farewell
لو كنتُ أعلم أنّ يومَ وَداعكْم
أضْنَىcaused exhaustion وأنّيand that I منof وصالكunion with you أُسْلَبI am robbed
أضْنَى وأنّي من وصالك أُسْلَب
Had I known that the day of bidding you farewell
If I had known the day I bid you farewell
would wear me down, and that I would be robbed of union with you,
Would grieve me, and that I'd be deprived of your company,
لقتلتُI would have killed نفسيmyself طاعةًin obedience لرضاكُمfor your pleasure
لقتلتُ نفسي طاعةً لرضاكُم
ورأيتُand I deemed ذاكthat هوit الصوابُthe right course الأوجبُthe most obligatory
ورأيتُ ذاك هو الصوابُ الأوجبُ
I would have killed myself in obedience, to please you,
I would have killed myself to obey your contentment,
and deemed that the right and most imperative course.
And seen that to be the most proper and right choice.
