its east wind gentle, its rain sweet, its drops streaming down.

When it drenches the land with showers, it beautifies its gardens

and clothes it in brocade of blossoms and flowers.

yet without anger, her eyelids drunken without intoxication,

when you give, you follow generosity with an apology.

As though the royal canopy, since there shone beneath it

your brow, were spread over the sun and the full moon.

Signs have appeared for you, bearing witness concerning you,

that you are the chosen one among those in authority,

the land of the two Iraqs submits under compulsion,

and that you are the rightly guided one among all the imams,

and master of this appointed time and this age.

and know what is to come of good and evil,

transmitting from your pure grandfather, al-Mansur,

who alone among humankind possessed knowledge of them.

and that all unbelievers have their destination

in the Fire on the Day of Resurrection and Gathering.

and His proof, O revealer of radiant proofs.

you surpass them as the crescent surpasses the Eagle.

Even if the unceasing rain sought, with its drops, to outdo

your right hand, that hand would exceed its drops in bounty.

your ransom, or increase your years with years of my own.

to achieve by setting your excellence into verse?

If any noble one were above the thanks of humankind,

you would be, in this world, too exalted for thanks.

Yours is the highest nobility, which Hashim

built between the sacred pilgrimage sites and al-Hijr.

You surpassed all creatures first and then last,

and won their willing allegiance through your overflowing bounty.

You raced kings for glory and outstripped them,

and they did not attain even a tenth of a tenth of your reach.

In every breast, pure love of you stands firm,

yet it is less than what you have in my breast.

God's blessing be upon you whenever the sun rises,

for you are beneficent and never tire of doing good.
