فَلَمّاso when اِلتَقَيناwe met وَكانَand there was الجِلادُthe fighting
فَلَمّا اِلتَقَينا وَكانَ الجِلادُ
أَحَبّواthey loved الحَياةَlife فَوَلّواso they turned and fled شِلالاin scattered flight
أَحَبّوا الحَياةَ فَوَلّوا شِلالا
So when we met and battle was joined,
When we met, though whips did fall,
they loved life, so they turned and fled in disarray.
They loved life, and fled them all.
