ماnot زالَceased مِنّاamong us حامِلٌa bearer لِلِوائِناof our banner
وَموقِدُand a kindler نارٍa fire لِلندَىfor hospitality حَيثُwhere أَظلَماit grew dark
There has always been among us a bearer of our banner,
Among us there remains a bearer of our banners
And one who kindles a fire for hospitality wherever darkness falls.
And kindler of light for the dew wherever it is dark
وَأَبقَتand have left صُروفُvicissitudes الدَهرِof time مِناof us عِصابَةًa band
فَوارِسَhorsemen أَبطالاًheroes وَرَجلاًand foot soldiers عَرَمرَماvast in number
And the vicissitudes of time have left a band of us:
And time's vicissitudes have left of us a group
Heroic horsemen and a vast host of foot soldiers,
Valiant horsemen and a tottering old man
وَجِذلٍand many a tree stump حِكاكٍfor rubbing against مَنwhoever يَرُمهُassails him مِنamong اِمرىءٍa man
يَجِدwill find بِذِراعَيهِon his two forearms وَلَبَّتِهِand at the base of his throat دَماblood
And many a rubbing-post—any man who assails him
And a talkative old woman, whoever insults her
Will find blood on his forearms and at the base of his throat.
Will find with her arms and bite blood
