The Trojans stood secure, their troops keeping watch;
They fortified in Troy, their troops keeping watch
while overwhelming grief and anguish broke the Achaeans.
And the excess of sorrow and separation weakened the Achaeans

A shudder was sent upon them from the abode of immortality,
Thunder is brought to them from the stance of eternity
with the summons to flight keeping pace beside it.
Accompanied by the caller to flee challenging

Their entrails throbbed as the deep sea heaves
And their insides tremble as the waves turbulent
when the sea encounters the sweeping winds.
When the sail meets the winds sweeping

Together blew in it blowing suddenly

And Atreides, with torment assailing his mind,
And confusion and turmoil attack its core
went among them, summoning the heralds in succession.
Revolving around them, the callers follow one another

He ordered them to summon a council in whispers,
And it commands the council that they whisper in it
calling the nobles by name; then he hurried onward.
With their names for the prey and it crossed habitually

Sitting and the silence of grief rejoiced spreading

And in the breaths of grief he shouted calling

My beloveds Ajax and Teucer, the prey made me lonely
Zeus had cast me into Ate's snares.
Disaster in the ropes coming

And Teucer was by nodding his head
that we would batter down the defenses of Ilium,
That we in Ilion will crush the aims

So what made him in what he threw me

I have lost the chiefs of men and he has ordained
that I return to Argos abased.
To Argos I return humiliated

Yes, that is an order the Ordainer wanted

They listened, and silence lingered over their gloom.
They shouted and the silence lasted above their frowns
Then Diomedes, brother of valor, cried aloud:
So Diomedes, the brave brother, shouted next

You have gone too far, Atreides; the first objector
You have exaggerated Atreides, the first denier
to these words of yours is, I find, myself—do not be enraged.
Of your saying, this one, don't get angry at me

You have fooled and you have declared my will weak

Both the beardless youths and the gray-haired men witnessed this;
With this the elders and the old altogether
yet Zeus apportioned his gifts in full:
Testified that you Atreides have tightened the guaranteed provision

you were not given strength of hand—valor comes first—
So you were not given the might of palm and might is first
but you were given the glory of kingship and honor as the second gift.
And you were given the pride of reign and honor second

If you wanted a path lower than you here are the ways ready

You have reached the highest, Diomedes, with your might as
in judgment you have stood high among your peers.

yet the decisive word remains unclear.
But the judgment of speech still hidden

So you are a young man if your age was measured it wouldn't be
equal that of the youngest of my little sons.
Equal to the youngest of my little children

My brother in glory Atreides comprehends my saying

They took their stations in order between a wall and a trench,
So they lined up between a fence and a trench
and kindled fires to prepare the food.
And fell asleep to prepare the ready food

Atreides came with the elders to his tents
And Atreides met with the old at his tent
for a feast overflowing with ample food.
For a banquet overflowing with fulfilling food

So when with their hands they finished what was in front of them
and all thirst and hunger had been driven far away,
And all the thirst and hunger was dismissed distant

Atreides, lord of the nobles, the first I address
Atreides master of prey, the first to run
and the last to whom my words are directed:
And the last one to run to his saying

شُعُوباً سَمَت عَدَّا ونِلتَ المَعالِيا
you received from Zeus the scepter of kingship, ruling
You have turned away from Xerxes the stick of reign governing
peoples vast in number, and attained the heights.
Nations that reached number and attained high status

it proceeds from a heart ever striving for good.
It comes from a heart that stayed with good hastening

As for my counsel, I believe you will receive none to match it,
So my opinion, I don't think you will be given its like
nor did it first occur to me at this moment.
And it's not in this time wandering in my mind

I have repeated it since you robbed our Achilles
I've been repeating it since you robbed from our Achilles
of Briseis, unjustly and against the Argives' will.
Briseis despite the protests wrongfully

Your soul's deceit possessed you through pride, and you did not listen
Self desire deceived you arrogance so you didn't
to my judgment and the words with which I came to restrain you.
Listen to my rule and saying in which I forbid you

You rose and spoke harsh words to a lord
And you stood and made the speech harsh to a master
whose honor rose as high as the children of immortality.
Who reached honor until the people of eternity lofty

However far away he has withdrawn, let us find
And whatever resentment's distance, we won't find
a way to win his friendship, so that he comes reconciled.
A way to reconcile it coming pure

Let us soften our words to him, and with them soften him,
We will soften speech to him with which we soften him

And we will gift him the finest gifts
