وَاجتازَ بالخَيلِ الحَفِيرَ بِغِبطَةٍ

وَكَذا الجَمِيعُ على المَسَرَّةِ أَجمَعُوا

He passed the moat on horse in eager pace

And all the troop at Maserrah joined apace

صَحِبُوهُ حَتَّى خَيمَةٍ لذِيُومِذٍ

وَالخَيلَ فيها في المَرابِطِ أَودَعُوا

His friends escorted him to Diyumid's tent

And lodged the steeds at station permanent

وضهُناكَ في الحَبِّ الشَّهِيِّ جِيَادُهُ

بِمَذاوِدٍ نُصِبَت لَدَيها رُتَّعُ

They tethered them in love's sweet pasture there

By pegs and ropes arranged with studious care

وَمضَى أُذِيسُ بِمُنتَهى أَشراعِهِ

أَسلابَ ذُولُونَ الخَضِيبَةَ يَشرَعُ

Then Athees with the sail's extremest spread

Embarked to free Dulul, the noble stead

نَذراً يُعِدُّ بِها وُكُلٌ مِنهُما

في البَحرِ خاضَ مُسارِعاً يَستَنقِعُ

A vow he registered, and therewith both

Plunged in the sea pursuing headlong troth

ساقَيهِ والفَخذَينِ يَغسِلُ دالِكاً

عُنُقاً بها عَرَقٌ يَسِيلُ ويَهمَعُ

The legs and thighs with brine he bathed awhile

The neck perspiring as he rode the mile

حتَّى إِذا ما اليَمُّ رَطَّبَ جِسمَهُ

لِلمِسبَحِ المَصقُولِ بادَرَ يَنزَعُ

Till when the sea had soaked him to the bone

He made attempt to doff the polished zone

مُستَانِفاً غُسلاً بِهِ مُتَطِّيباً

زَيتاً بهِ الجِسمُ المُرَطَّبُ يُمرَعُ

Renewing then the lave with fair perfume

His body now rehydrates to assume

ثُمَّ اغتَدى لِطَعامِهِ وَهُنَاكَ ضا

في الدَّنِّ بالخَمرِ الشَّهِيَّةِ مُترَعُ

The oil just poured as nourishment applied

At length he turned to wine and drank beside

منها يُريقُ بأَكؤسٍ مَملُوءِةٍ

نَذراً لآثِينا بها يَتشَفَّعُ

The bowl from which he poured libations fine

As votive gifts for laurelled Valentine
