    There Atreides delivered a speech:

You have indeed surpassed every orator, old man.

If only, with the aid of Zeus and Pallas,

and then Phoebus, the wrathful god,

I had ten men with wisdom such as yours,

I would subdue Ilium beneath my blows.

    Yet the shield-bearer torments

my heart with every disquieting discord.

For between me and Achilles there flared

a quarrel—and I am the source of its blaze.

And if we were on a straight path,

I would humble Troy before long.

So rise for food, my companions, and then

we march to the charge and spread the flame.

    Prepare shields and sharpen spears,

and give more fodder to the steeds of strife.

    And swiftly inspect the chariots,

for this day is the war-god's day.

    فَلا فَترَةٌ بَعدَ ذَاكَ الهُبُوبِ

    So spring up, and think of nothing but war;

for no respite shall follow that surge,

until the armies of darkness intervene

and every clamorous warrior is forced to disperse.

And sweat from the chests will stream onto

    a shield raised above blood-stained mail;

and your hands will grow numb upon their spears,

and in that the horses have a bitter share:

so they swim in sweat from their weariness,

as they pull you in the chariots of peril.

And whoever hangs back—that man, beware!—

is food for dogs and famished birds.
