O my compatriots, in your generosity you have won
My fellow citizens, you have possessed
My soul and body through your kindness.

فخذواso take إذاthen رسمportrait المحبّthe loving one فذاfor this
فخذوا إذا رسم المحبّ فذا
أبقىmore enduring لكمfor you منthan جسميَmy body الفانيmortal
أبقى لكم من جسميَ الفاني
So take, then, the portrait of one who loves you, for this
So if a lover sketches my portrait,
Is more enduring for you than my mortal body.
What remains for you is my perishable flesh.
