I have no need of what you seek.

Zeus has honored me and will protect

my ships through me, as long as I delight in life.

Here is the final word: do not shed tears

nor rend me for love of Atreides.

if you are not made wretched by my love.

and rule with me; I shall share my rule with you.

spend the night here on soft carpets.

we deem best: to set out at dawn or stay.”

soft bedding, so that the wise men might depart.

I do not see hopes being fulfilled this way.

And we must convey the answer, even if it is

bad, for the Greeks have remained anxious.

and no longer cares for his closest friends.

yet he is defiant, harsh, deeply unjust, and hulking.

Many a brother and son they redeem with money,

and the offender remains in comfort and safety.

And the slain man's family, if they obtain

ample money, forgive and shun—and shun—the strife.

Your heart has grown dark with rage over a girl,

and we have come to give you seven girls,

and, besides the graceful maidens, splendid gifts.

Calm your fear; cast your anxious thoughts away.

On behalf of all the Greeks, we have come to you,

hoping to be held dearest by you.

    فاحترِمهُ وارعَ الضًّيُوفَ وآنِس

    We are in your house, where you yourself are;

so honor it, care for your guests, and be welcoming.”
