حكى الأربابَ دَع هذي المَسالِك
Then he cried in reply: O Achilles, you
My eloquent friend Achilles, you who
who resemble the gods, abandon these ways!
Spoke of the lords, leave these paths

تَزاني غَير مُنقادٍ لِقالِك
For you will never deceive me, and indeed
For you will never deceive me, even though
you will find me unyielding to your words.
I restrain myself, not led by your words

وسَهمُكَ فَائِزٌ خَطَرَا ببالِك
I am to return my captive, losing my share,
I want back my captive and my arrow’s course
while yours is secure—both have crossed your mind.
While your arrow was victorious in your mind

Yes, I agree, if our chiefs guarantee
Yes, I would be content if you guaranteed our secrets
me, in return, recompense of equal worth.
For that, I deserve a reward like that

Otherwise, leave me to resist by force
with Ajax's possessions, Odysseus's, or yours.
With the gold of Ajax or Odysseus or yours

Then I myself will lodge it in my tents,
There I will pitch my tent by myself
and let whoever I visit rage there.
And whoever comes to me will be enraged there

We shall discuss this; here, row out at once in
We will search and cast immediately here in
a dark galley upon the sea's surging waters.
A raven lost in the sea's fog

We shall see it, with sailors and sacrificial victims
We will see him with the shields and victims
and this fair maiden, sailing over the deep.
And the beautiful one above the waves traveling

لرَبِّ النَّبلِ نَدَّرِىءُ المَهالِك
Perhaps, by seeking favor and offering sacrifices
Maybe with humility and victims
to the lord of arrows, we may ward off deadly dangers.
We will avert destruction for the lord of nobility
