بك الملك ازدهى يا خير والٍ

بك الملك ازدهى يا خير والٍ

بعودته الممالك قد ألحت

بعودته الممالك قد ألحت

Through you the realm has flourished, O best of governors,

The king rejoiced at your return, O best ruler,

for whose return the kingdoms had insistently pleaded.

With his return the realms became delighted,

وأقبل قبل عيد النحر عيد ال

وأقبل قبل عيد النحر عيد ال

لقا فازدانت الدنيا وضحت

لقا فازدانت الدنيا وضحت

And before the Feast of Sacrifice came the feast of

And he came before the Feast of Sacrifice, the feast of,

reunion; so the world adorned itself and shone.

Meeting, so the world became radiant and serene,

ملأت الشام أفراحاً تناءت

ملأت الشام أفراحاً تناءت

عن الشاني وعنا ما تنحت

عن الشاني وعنا ما تنحت

You filled al-Sham with joys that stayed far

He filled Syria with joys that sighed,

from the hater, and did not withdraw from us.

About the praiser and about us what was engraved,

ولكن بعد ما كانت تغني

ولكن بعد ما كانت تغني

بها الرشوات يا مولاي بحت

بها الرشوات يا مولاي بحت

But after they had been singing

But after what it used to sing,

there, my lord, the bribes grew hoarse.

About it the bribes, O my Master openly,

لذاك يراعتي بالحمد جادت

لذاك يراعتي بالحمد جادت

وكم ضنت على والٍ وشحت

وكم ضنت على والٍ وشحت

For that, my reed pen lavished praise;

Therefore my shepherd with praise was generous

and how often it had been grudging and miserly toward a governor!

And how much he was stingy on a ruler and was miserly

نظرت لها وفي الحسب انقباضٌ

نظرت لها وفي الحسب انقباضٌ

فلما شاهدت جدواك سحت

فلما شاهدت جدواك سحت

I looked at it, with misgivings in my mind;

I looked at it, and in lineage there was stinginess,

then, when it saw your bounty, it poured forth.

So when I saw your generosity I became generous,

فقلنا للحواضر والبوادي

فقلنا للحواضر والبوادي

شهادتكم له باليمن صحت

شهادتكم له باليمن صحت

So we said to the towns and the desert lands:

So we said to the cities and the villages

Your testimony to his auspiciousness has proved true.

Your witness for him in Yemen is true,

فهنوا آل سوريا وقولوا

فهنوا آل سوريا وقولوا

أتاكم أرخوا بالخير مدحت

أتاكم أرخوا بالخير مدحت

So congratulate the people of Syria, and say:
