من فضل ربي وإحسانات سلطاني

بنيتها مرمراً يزهو بعقيانِ

بنيتها مرمراً يزهو بعقيانِ

Through my Lord’s bounty and my sultan’s favors,

By the grace of my Lord and kindness of my Sultan

I built it of marble gleaming with pure gold.

I built it of marble glowing with rubies

فقل لمن خال بنياني لمفخرةٍ

فقل لمن خال بنياني لمفخرةٍ

واللَه لم يبنها إلّا لخلان

واللَه لم يبنها إلّا لخلان

So tell whoever thought I built it for pride:

Say to him who envies my edifice out of pride

By God, it was built only for friends.

By God it was built for nothing but decay

فما أنا غير ضيفٍ للملمِّ بها

فما أنا غير ضيفٍ للملمِّ بها

وبالحقيقة ربي لا أنا الباني

وبالحقيقة ربي لا أنا الباني

So I am nothing but a guest to whoever visits it,

So I am but a guest of the days spent herein

And in truth, my Lord—not I—is the builder.

And in truth my Lord, not I, is the builder
