يقولون لما حلَّ في الشام حامداً

محاسنَها حمدي لقد حضر العدلُ
They say, when there came to al-Sham, praising
They say that when he settled in Damascus, praising
its beauties, Hamdi: “Justice has indeed arrived.”
Its beauties, my praise, justice has come
فقلتso I said لهمto them والفضلand excellence أيضاًtoo فأرخواso record the date
فقلت لهم والفضل أيضاً فأرخوا
بحكمةthrough the wisdom of واليthe governor of الشامal-Sham قدindeed حكمhas ruled العدلjustice
بحكمة والي الشام قد حكم العدل
So I told them, “And excellence too!”—so record the date:
So I said to them, excellence as well, so credit
“Through the wisdom of al-Sham’s governor, justice has ruled.”
