O wanderers when will you return,
a moon whose couch is the throne of beauty?
A moon whose throne is the seat of beauty.
إنيindeed I لأطمعI certainly hope بازديارfor a visit غريركمyour fair young beloved
إني لأطمع بازديار غريركم
قبلbefore الخيالthe phantom فطيفهfor his apparition معذورexcused
قبل الخيال فطيفه معذور
Indeed, I hope for a visit from your fair young beloved
I yearn for the fleeting sight of you,
before the phantom comes, for his apparition is excused.
Before the phantom, its specter is excused.
لمdid not تبقleave ليfor me سنةyear النوىseparation سنةًa doze وماand not
لم تبق لي سنة النوى سنةً وما
لخيالهfor his phantom غيرother than الرقادslumber بعيرa camel
لخياله غير الرقاد بعير
The year of separation has left me not a wink of sleep, and
I have no choice but to sleep,
his phantom has no camel but slumber.
Its specter has only slumber as company.

لا فرق الرحمن بين غرامكم
وحشاشتيand my remaining life-breath إنindeed الفراقseparation مريرbitter
وحشاشتي إن الفراق مرير
May the All-Merciful never separate my love for you
The Merciful makes no distinction between your love
from the life still in me; separation is bitter indeed.
And my desolation, for separation is bitter.
