Praise be to God; His bounty has spread everywhere.
Praise be to Allah, His mercy has spread
And His power has scattered tyranny's resolves.
And the tyrants' power has vanished

تكلفت بدوام العدل همته
And He adorned religion and the world with a mighty man,
He has improved religion and life through an Able One
whose resolve undertook to make justice endure.
Who has devoted himself to establishing justice

Righteous, chaste, forbearing, powerful—there shone
A virtuous, chaste, forbearing, capable one, whose wisdom
throughout creation, like the sun's radiance, his wisdom.
Shone throughout the universe like the sun's rays

Modest of countenance, devout, loved by every pure soul;
The shameful cover was lifted by a pure one who loves him
every wretch whose inner nature has darkened hates him.
And every crooked one who hates him was bent

He came to al-Sham while the rain was forsaking it,
He came to Syria when it was deprived of rain
then it overflowed until his steady rain became like the sea.
So it overflowed until it became like the sea in its abundance

He separated out its wicked and chose its best.
He singled out its transgressors and chose its best
May he remain its defender, for justice is his nature.
He still supports it, for justice is his trait

O best of those at whose appearance the world grew resplendent,
O the best one whose appearance beautified the world
and best of those whose conduct was praised for virtue,
And the best one whose merits made his conduct praised

no undertaking has God set right for us in this world
Every good deed done in the world by us
without your awe-inspiring official being its cause.
Is through your awe-inspiring agent taking charge of it

So be safe, rule, endure, and rise—virtue is linked
So submit, excel, and rise above in merit, you who trace
to you, O you whose lineage is traced to Ahl al-Bayt.
Your lineage to him, O member of the Prophet's family

ونور وجهك فوق الشمس ندوته
We could not tell, when you entered al-Sham glad at heart,
We did not know, when you entered Syria delighted,
and the light of your face held its assembly above the sun,
Whether your radiant face outshone the sun in its rising

whether a [sun?] had risen in the darkness, recording the date,
Or did a historian's sun rise recording your praise
or the realm had shone when its Midhat arrived.
Or did the kingdom shine when you came, lauded
