O rescuer of every man whom grief has laid low,

On you, after the God of the Throne, we rely.

I complain to you of patience: it deserted me on Eid,

While I was empty-handed; then fortitude departed after it.

So look upon one who has no ram to offer

For Eid, O rescuer of one for whom the land has grown too narrow.

And may you remain well for it and for feasts that

God renews for you, so their number never ends.

Time shall not devour my wealth without recompense,

Nor shall poverty kill those like me without retribution,

Nor shall the darkness of my fortune last, while your face, to me,

O Shir Khurshid, is a sun whose zodiacal sign is the Lion.

For you are kinder to me than I am to myself, and more compassionate than

A mother in whose embrace a child breathes his last.
