لعدلك يشكو البرَّ من مدمعي البحرُ
O nightly companion of lofty honors and their virtuous master,
Samir Al-Ma'ali and the son of his ancestor are kind
The sea complains of the land to your justice because of my tears.
For your justice, the kind complain to the tears of the sea

Fulfill my hope and send a scribe to Ajlun,
Respond to my hope and send a writer to Ajlun
other than me; for I do not love calves, even were they to yield milk.
Except what I desire, even if they spill

Has a servant who praises and thanks you sinned,
Did a praising, grateful servant sin
that the desolate land should keep him far from your face?
That you would distance him from your face to the barren land?

Your glory has spread over my dwellings
since your radiant dawns turned away from me.
Since your rising places turned away from me

And my fear and pouring tears remained
like a sparrow shuddering, drenched by rain.
As the sparrow trembled from its wet feathers

I dwell beside beasts in the pitch-black night,
I dwell at night with beasts, as beasts
and the ugliest ghouls when dawn rises.
And the ugliest of images when dawn breaks

So if you will not consent to my departure from villages
If you are not pleased with my distance from villages
where I have become like a heart whose chest has deserted it,
That have become to me like a heart left by its chest

Ajlun the wicked is to me a grave
