منone who كانwas أفتىyounger وأعتىand fiercer منthan ملوكthe kings of سباSheba
O Lord, the spell of languid eyes has taken captive
O Lord, the magic of drowsy eyes captivated me at dawn
one who was younger and fiercer than the kings of Sheba.
Who was more astray and intense than the kings of Saba?

And love for them has clothed their lovers in wasting sickness,
And their love dressed their lovers in poverty
by which the wearer is almost hidden from the watchers.
It almost hides the dresser from the necks

So, by Your truth, O All-Merciful, increase its might,
So increase, O Most Merciful, His power by Your right
and leave no wealth to any dominion but its own.
And do not let anyone but Him have power or grow

And guard from the evil eye a radiant cheek, to which
And protect from the evil eye a cheek You granted
the sun has given the gold of her colors.
To which the gazelle gave its golden colors

For it is what deserves a man's gratitude;
He deserves thanks from a man
without it, he would have known neither love poetry nor rapture.
Without him youth and joy would not be known

My enchantress says, 'The bath has made it rosy,'
My charmer said goodbye to the dovecote and returned it
and you know that the rose is the rose of youth:
And you know the rose is the rose of youth

the rose of beauty, which had never forsaken her,
The rose of beauty that never deserted it
and had merely been veiled by white wild roses.
Rather it was concealed among violets

By God, O rival of the sun, you who have hidden yourself
By God, sun who veiled yourself
behind the tent's lapis blue from the watchers' eyes,
With the green chrysolite from the eyes of the watchers

is this veil's substance drawn from turquoise,
Is this veil made of turquoise or
or from the reflection of blue eyes? Ah, my anguish!
Of the blue eyes' imagination, magic and confusion?

I ransom the eyes with my soul and the veil together
and the daisies in your mouth, and the bubbles.

And where is my soul, with which to ransom the eyes?
Where is my soul with which I ransom the eyes?
It has perished, and the jewel of my mind was stolen before it.
It perished and the essence of my heart was plundered before it
أنتyou التيthe one whom كانused to قلبthe heart of الصبthe lovesick lover يغلبهاovercome her

You are the one the lovesick man's heart used to overcome
You whom the patience of passion once overcame
with patience; but patience deserted it, and it was overcome.
But patience betrayed and overpowered it

How long will my longing strike me down while I conceal it,
Why does my love fell me and I conceal it?
as tears have turned to blood, and patience to dust?
My tears turned to blood and patience to gift

The swords of black eyes used to pursue me,
The black swords of eyes wanted me
yet gained from me neither what they hoped for nor what they desired.
But gained no hope or profit from me

Then the sword of blue eyes began to strike me down—
So the blue eyes' sword fells me
no, rather, it cuts my heart to pieces with passion.
Rather, it shreds my heart passionately

May both hands of him who forbade me your company perish, O my solace!
I blame the hand that prevented me from you, my dwelling
The wretch's wealth and what he earned availed him nothing.
Wealth did not avail the wretched one and what he earned

He stays up asking me the cause of my longing
may his eye never see the cause in your eye!
As if your eyes did not show him the cause

He said, 'You love black eyes.' I said to him,
And he said, "You love the black eyes." I said to him
'In blue eyes my heart was lost and burst into flame.'
"The heart and passion were lost to the blue eyes."

When the fire's blue appears within its flame,
When its blue flame flares up
it blazes; black does not kindle the flame.
It ignites, and black does not ignite flames
