My lord, you summon me, yet from traveling by night

You have restrained me with the enemies’ gloating.

And you say you invited me to joy,

After you had set my enemies over me.

Alas for my destitution and my reproachers’ words:

“Where is your pride in the Ta’i emir?”

By God, indeed, through the way you have treated me,

You have done the finest of things.

You taught me to leave all matters to my Creator,

And to be patient in prosperity and adversity.

So I severed my ties with all people,

And joined the cord of my hope to the One I worship.
