لما بدا في محيا جلَّ من خلقا
while the cheek’s redness complains of its audacity
And rosy cheeks complaining of its audacity
when it appeared upon a face—exalted is He who created it—
When it appeared on a cheek of unmatched beauty
نجمa star بداappeared بعمودin the shaft of الصبحdawn مستتراًhiding itself
نجم بدا بعمود الصبح مستتراً
منfrom نيراتbright stars سلاهاit had forgotten them فالتظتso they blazed حنقاwith rage
من نيرات سلاها فالتظت حنقا
were a star that appeared in the shaft of dawn, hiding itself
A star appeared veiled in the pillar of dawn
from bright stars it had forgotten, which blazed with rage
By the brilliance of its light, it kindled envy
وأرسلتand they sent نحوهtoward it برقاًlightning فأدركهso it overtook it
وأرسلت نحوه برقاً فأدركه
تحتbeneath الثرياthe Pleiades قريبnear الشمسthe sun فاحترقاso it burned
تحت الثريا قريب الشمس فاحترقا
and sent lightning toward it, which overtook it
And she cast lightning towards it
