O rose, it is not the roses of gardens that I seek—
O rose, I do not mean the roses of the gardens;
the roses of your cheek revive me after death.
The roses of your cheek revive me after death.
لوif كانwas يعرفknew ميداناًa field of action دواa remedy كبديmy liver
ماnot قلتI said ياO منيتيmy heart’s desire بالوصلthrough union داوينيheal me
Had a remedy for my aching heart been known anywhere,
Had a remedy for my liver known a field of action,
I would not have said, “O my heart’s desire, heal me through union.”
I would not have said, “O my heart’s desire, heal me through union.”
إلامَhow long بالنارwith fire ياO روحيmy soul يعذِّبُنيhe torments me
ونارand the fire حبكyour love بالأشواقwith longings تكوينيsears me
How long will he torment me with fire, O my soul,
How long, O my soul, will he torment me with fire?
while the fire of your love sears me with longing?
And the fire of your love sears me with longing.
ياO ربLord أصبحhas become منbecause of هجرانهاher abandonment بدنيmy body
أرقَّthinner منthan غزليmy love poetry فيهاabout her ومنand than دينيmy faith
O Lord, through her abandonment my body has become
O Lord, from her abandonment my body has grown
more delicate than my verse about her—and than my faith.
Thinner than my love poetry about her, and than my faith.
